Council Stickers On GraveStones

Exclamation Intrusion by RMBC on community property!

I see that I am not the only person who feels aggrieved at what is happening in Newhill cemetery ! People vigorously being told to straighten head stones by Rotherham Council. Surely this maintenance could have been done with the aid of some grant ? I remember a newspaper article from 1973 which reported a glowing story praising Wath Council using a grant to pay its workers for straightening stones and paths around All Saints Church and its graveyard.

Its a deep shame then, why some regeneration grant monies given to this area after the closure of the pits and many more industries, hasnt been directed to a cemetery fund, since most of the graves threatened by the action belong to old miners and townfolk, all of whom the Wath-upon-dearne community and its resting places have been built on…

I sincerely believe that there is no respect shown when headstones are targeted for levelling with absolutely no thought for the peoples feelings. Apparently cutting grass and badly laid turf is the only maintenance done of late. Who will put the headstones back where trees have been left to grow through graves and their roots have completely destroyed gravesides and headstones to the point where…….guess what…….yes…..someone has stuck a yellow sticker on it ?
SHAME ON YOU…… Sad

Not that I have been monitoring this topic but, I do know from regular trips around the Wath Cemetary that the 'Yellow Sticker' mallarky seems to have quietened down.

I have the opinion that the authorities have covered their asses by stickering the stones en-masse so that any future claim will be met by "We Told You So" and so thrown out of Court or laid at the door of the Grave owner...

What do you say to this mr RMBC .... I wonder!

That's what I think anyway ...

Howdie

I read somewhere that the crux of the issue was to do with a fatal accident happening in a graveyard some time ago.
This seems to have caused a re-think along the lines of litigation prevention on behalf of the authorities.

My vote is with the Administration when they comment about covering every angle. Yeh! That's how it looks to me also.

What happens if someone slips and falls by stepping in one of the many potholes in the cemeary grounds?

What about the big trees growing up through some of the old graves ... surely the grave owners can't be held responsible for the damage the trees have caused. What about the council putting those damaged graves back in good order.

Is there any mileage in worrying about being attacked by a squirrel ... and what about the magpies .. woosh.. they all but take off the syrrup as they zoom by Shocked

that's it
The missus is prowling
bye
